Cover Reveal: SUMMER OF SLOANE

Last week, the ever lovely Jen over on Pop! Goes The Reader, graciously hosted my cover reveal for SUMMER OF SLOANE, along with a fun interview and a giveaway too.

It was surreal to finally see my book have a cover, let alone share it with the rest of the world -- but I couldn't be more excited!

And in case you missed it, here she is!

I couldn't be happier with how well Tyler - the cover designer over at Hyperion - captured my book! From the gorgeous sky, ocean, and beach, to the model's arm being in a cast (you'll have to read SOS to find out why!), to the surfboard -- everything about this is perfect! Not that I'm biased or anything. Okay maybe I am. But holy wow! My name is actually on the cover of a book! My. Name.

Anyhow...

If you'd like to check out the interview, you can find all of that here: Pop! Goes The Reader

SUMMER OF SLOANE will be released in bookstores everywhere, May 3, 2016 -- and as soon as I have preorder links available, I'll share them!

You can also add SOS to your TBR on Goodreads.

It's all really happening, guys. Years and years of dreaming to write and publish a book and now it's all coming true. Thanks so much for joining me on this amazing journey!

Cover Reveal: The One Thing by Marci Lyn Curtis

It's here, it's here!!!

I'm SO happy to share the amazing cover reveal for my dear friend and fellow Mouse House author, Marci Lyn Curtis, and her upcoming YA Contemporary novel, THE ONE THING!!!

I was thrilled to see early cover designs Marci received late last year -- just to have a little glimpse into what goes on behind the scenes...share in the excitment of actually knowing your book is coming to life. It was all, well, a little surreal and I was so happy for Marci that the cover is perfect!

But enough about what I think...what do YOU think?

Perfect right???

GOODREADS SYNOPSIS:

THE ONE THING
Disney-Hyperion
Coming September 8th, 2015

A soaring tale of life and love, of sacrifice and renewal, and learning to see people as they really are.

Maggie Sanders might be blind, but she won't invite anyone to her pity party. Ever since losing her sight six months ago, Maggie's rebellious streak has taken on a life of its own, culminating with an elaborate school prank. Maggie called it genius. The judge called it illegal.

Now Maggie has a probation officer. But she isn't interested in rehabilitation, not when she's still mourning the loss of her professional soccer dreams, and furious at her so-called friends, who lost interest in her as soon as she could no longer lead the team to victory.

When Maggie first meets Ben, she thinks she can add crazy to her list of problems. But the precocious ten-year-old isn't a hallucination. Maggie can actually see him. She immediately befriends the kid, desperate for any chance to see again.

It turns out Ben's older brother is Mason Milton, the ridiculously hot lead singer of Maggie's new favorite band. Music is the first thing that has made Maggie feel alive since losing her sight. But when she learns the real reason she can see Ben, Maggie must find the courage to face a once-unimaginable future...before she loses everything she has grown to love.

Pretty fantastic, huh? So what are you waiting for -- add THE ONE THING to your Goodreads TBR shelves now!

A LITTLE ABOUT MARCI:

Marci Curtis grew up in Northern California, where she went to college and met an amazing guy in a military uniform. Two college-aged kids and one dachshund later, she lives in Maryland, where she laughs too loudly and eats peanut butter off spoons. Her YA contemporary debut, The One Thing, comes out September 8th, 2015 via Disney-Hyperion. Learn more about her at Marcilyncurtis.com

GIVEAWAY:
Marci is giving away an awesome pair of custom earrings themed perfectly around THE ONE THING -- enter the Rafflecopter form below (or directly on Marci's website).

Happy Book Birthday to Elizabeth Briggs: MORE THAN MUSIC

A HUGE congratulations to Elizabeth Briggs who is celebrating her book birthday today, with her release of MORE THAN MUSIC!

Not only have I gotten to know Elizabeth through the YA Buccaneers Spring Writing Bootcamp -- GO TEAM RAINIER!!! -- but she and I share a very funny story back in my querying days for WHERE THE WATER FALLS that I'll save for another time...because today? It's all about MORE THAN MUSIC!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Music major Maddie Taylor seems to have her life all figured out. She’s just finished her junior year of college, has a summer internship lined up with the LA Philharmonic, and plans to go to grad school to write movie scores. Only her roommates know she practices guitar every night and secretly dreams of a louder life. But geeky girls like her don’t get to be rock stars.

Tattooed singer Jared Cross has a new girl every week, but when he catches Maddie playing one of his songs, she attracts his attention in an unexpected way. His band needs a fourth member for The Sound, a reality TV show competition—and he wants her. Though Maddie refuses to be another notch on Jared’s bedpost, she agrees to risk everything for the chance to be a rock star.

Once on the show, Maddie discovers there’s more to Jared behind his flirty smile, and with each performance their attraction becomes impossible to ignore. When the show pressures Jared to flaunt his player image, they’re forced to keep their relationship secret, but Maddie can’t help but want something real.

As the competition heats up, Jared will do whatever it takes for his band to win, and Maddie must decide if following her dream is worth losing her heart.

YA Buccaneers NaNoWriMo Treasure Hunt

To celebrate the upcoming entire month of November and all it means for us writers, we YA Buccaneers thought it would be fun to host a NaNoWriMo Treasure Hunt!

And what exactly does that entail?

Well it's simple:

1. Each YA Buccaneer crew member will post a tip on how to navigate the high seas of NaNo on their own personal blogs.

2. Anyone who would like to join us will simply hop from blog to blog to read all the great NaNo tips. We'll make sure to provide a link to the next blog you hop to!

3. Leave a comment on each blog.

4. Enter your name on the RaffleCopter widget at the bottom of each post -- the more blogs you visit = more entries to win!

And voila! You're entered in our treasure hunt to win a copy of NO PLOT? NO PROBLEM by Chris Baty -- an excellent guide to help you with your MS during the 30 days of NaNo!

So, my NaNo tip for the Treasure Hunt?

Don't get caught up in the small stuff.

NaNoWriMo is a time for unabashed writing...not editing. There will be time for that later! All you need to focus on during this time is writing. Getting all those crazy words in your head, down on paper.

Yes, some of it will be trashed later.
Yes, some of it will be completely unusable.

But yes, some of it will actually stick when all is said and done.

The point of NaNo is to write.

So don't sweat the small stuff...that's all fixable later.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on NaNo - will you be entering this year? Do you have any tips you'd like to share? Drop a note in my comments below -- and don't forget to enter your name in the RaffleCopter widget to win!

For your next stop on the NaNoWriMo Treasure Hunt, please hop on over to The Dread Pirate B's blog for her advice on conquering NaNo this year! Stop by the YA Buccaneers to catch up on any blogs you may have missed, too!

I hope to see you around the NaNo-sphere next month!
